Sevylor Quikpak K5 1 Person Kayak Review

Among hundreds of inflatables on the market, only a few manufacturers can claim that their kayak is the best. Sevylor QuickPak K5 Kayak is one of them. The easy to inflate 1-person kayak has been constructed sturdily with a thick rubberized coating over a canvas. Measuring at 10 feet by 3 feet, its weight capacity is 250 pounds. The orange and black combination feels and looks great, and it’s surprisingly lightweight for its size. It’s one of the highest quality products.

Features of the Sevylor QuikPak K5 Inflatable Kayak

The Coleman Sevylor QuikPak K5 is one of the inflatable kayaks with the highest quality. Its construction was designed with the aim of optimum stability and tracking. Additional built-in features ensure that you will have amazing kayaking experiences.

More Durability

It’s a canvas with a rubberized coating. Also, the 1000D polyester bottom has been laminated with 24-gauge PVC for more durability.

No Air Loss

Double-lock and mini double-lock valves have been installed to prevent any accidental air loss.

Room for Accessories

This single-person kayak has plenty of space for all your accessories and kayaking needs. Additionally, it comes with multiple D-rings, and bungee lacing, which is great for storing added accessories and gears. You can pretty much carry your camping gear with it.

250 Pounds Weight Capacity

It is capable of holding 250 pounds in weight.

Advantages of the Coleman QuikPak K5 Inflatable Kayak

Check out the pros and cons in order to decide whether the Sevylor Coleman QuikPak K5 Inflatable Kayak is the right choice for you.

Perfect Build

The build of the kayak feels perfect. Unlike others available on the market, it neither feels too wide nor too narrow.

Sitting Comfortably

The seat is surprisingly comfortable, given that you sit on your backpack or whatever cushion you choose to add, although it seems to be just a hollow space in the middle.

Great Stability

The hefty price does not disappoint, as it is remarkable in terms of stability, and will handle well against rough lake water and motorboat waves.

Quick Inflation & Deflation

It inflates in a breeze, and deflation time is pretty quick too.

Save Money

It features a permanently fixed skeg, which is a huge plus point, seeing that the ones with the removable skeg are constantly complaining about their skeg detaching in the middle of the ride and getting lost. You don’t have to attach strings to your skeg; nor constantly keep buying new ones, so it’s a money saver.

The kayak is pretty sturdy, and it feels strong, but it is still not recommended to be used as an adventure kayak. It should be able to handle lakes and cut through mild waves, but taking it out in the ocean is a big risk and it would be a shame to have your prized asset ruined. The little valve used for the floor is really flimsy. And although it comes with a grab and go storage bag, fitting it inside the bag will be a real pain for the first few times. It will require patience and “trial and error” mentality, but remember – practice makes perfection. Unfortunately you will need to buy a separate air pump and oar as both of them are not included in the package.

Bottom Line

The 1-person kayak from Sevylor is the top of the line in terms of quality. It features attractive graphics and the orange is easily visible in the water. Furthermore, it is built to be stable and the size is just right at 10 by 3 feet. The packaging includes mesh pocket and the storage bag. You do have the option of purchasing the company made oars along with the kayak, which will cost you an extra $50. It might seem like it’s priced a bit too high, but there is no compromise in terms of quality, performance, stability and the looks. It’s a great buy.

Rave Sea Rebel Inflatable Kayak and Hobie Mirage i9S (Single 9’) are noteworthy kayaks that fall under the same category. If you have gone through other inflatable kayak reviews, then you know that there are very few differences in terms of the features. And, the higher the price, the higher the number of features seems to be the trend with these products. Still, make sure you make an informed decision after properly evaluating all products.

Going by our own study for all three products, our verdict goes to the Coleman Sevylor QuikPak K5 Kayak.

Hobie Mirage is probably the best inflatable kayak out there in its category. The stability and performance on the water is amazing enough to compete with even rigid boats. The PVC-vinyl construction and reinforced underside make sure that the kayak is rugged and able to withstand big waves and rocky beaches. It holds the capacity of 325 pounds and comes with its own travel case, making transportation a breeze. But all that fancy features don’t come cheap and will cost you around $2000, which for a ‘1-person boat’ is unthinkable for most of us.

Rave Sea Rebel is cheaper than the Coleman and costs around $235. It features a 500D tarpaulin bottom for smooth gliding. It is lightweight, portable and the padded slight seat is adjustable. This single rider inflatable kayak has been designed for fun. Storage isn’t a problem with elastic bungee storage straps. It is quite stable, but when compared to Coleman, it falls short. Coleman feels far more comfortable, stable and better to handle against winds and waves.

The Coleman QuikPak K5 Inflatable Kayak definitely stands out. It is not too heavy, feels right in terms of both size and graphics, and comes with improved performance compared to most of its competitors. Also, it is sturdy and durable. Despite being cheaper, Rave Sea Rebel fails to meet the quality standards of the Coleman, while the Hobie is too costly for us average folks.
